My daily search for one new nugget of knowledge, invariably, uncovers a sack full fascinating facts.

Today's tidbits:
One mature oak tree can produce one-thousand pounds of acorns in one growing season, under normal weather conditions.
It is estimated that, over the course of human history, people have eaten more acorns than both wheat and rice, combined.

(If that estimate is true, it is astonishing, to me.)
